Huge Shortage Of Truck Drivers: Here Are Thousands Of Job Openings

Looking for a job? Truck drivers are in high demand right now, according to the American Trucking Association.
“ATA estimates that the current shortage of drivers is roughly 35,000 to 40,000,” ATA says on its website. ”But because of retirements and individuals leaving the industry, trucking companies will need to recruit nearly 100,000 new drivers a year over the next decade to keep pace with the country’s freight needs.”

Even with advances in air and water freight, trucking is still the preferred method for shipping in the United States. The ATA says that 68.8 percent of all domestic freight was moved by trucks in 2014, bringing in $700.4 billion in revenue.
And as the number of drivers goes down and need continues to rise, wages are going up to. One CEO told Fortune that trucking salaries have risen from $40,000 to over $50,000 per year since 2010.

Some truckers can make more than $100,000. And some companies are so in need that they’re offering signing bonuses of $5,000 and more.
