July 4 Travel Finds Cheap Gas Prices Plentiful

Gas is averaging about $2.34 statewide. Find out what it costs at your favorite Michigan travel destination.

DEARBORN, MI — Fourth of July travel is expected to rise by more than 3 percent overall in Michigan this year. That translates to nearly 1.3 million people on state highways, according to AAA Michigan. Travelers will find lower gas prices for their journeys.

In Royal Oak, $2.25 is the cheapest gas price to be found for regular gas as of Tuesday morning, according to GasBuddy.com. Five gas stations have at the price, including the Marathon station at 1708 Crooks Road, Kroger at Stephenson Highway and 12 Mile Road, Speedway at 12 Mile and Campbell Road, another Speedway at Rochester Road and 12 Mile and the Sunoco station at 12 Mile and Crooks Road.

So gas up before you hit the road. Here are regular gas prices for selected destinations across Michigan:

  • Traverse City, $2.29 - Speedway, 2525 N. U.S. 31
  • Mackinaw City, $2.39 - Marathon, 308 S. Nicolet Street
  • Grand Haven, $2.27 - Meijer, 14900 S. Beacon Boulevard
  • Petoskey, $2.32 - Citgo, 3916 Charlevoix Avenue
  • Frankenmuth, $2.32 - Kroger, 491 N. Main Street

Overall, the cheapest gas prices in Michigan are in Woodhaven, a southern suburb of Detroit. Several stations are selling regular for $1.97 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.com. The state average is $2.34, the website reports.
