ROYAL OAK, MI — Outgoing Royal Oak schools superintendent Shawn Lewis-Lakin recently received a Community Excellence Award. His last day on the job will be June 30. Longtime Berkley Schools Assistant Superintendent Mary Beth Fitzpatrick will take the reigns of the district on July 1.

Royal Oak Schools Board of Education Vice President Gary Briggs said Lewis-Lakin was the third superintendent he has worked with while serving on the board. “He’s done a fantastic job,” Briggs said, describing Lewis-Lakin as a top-notch, fair administrator. “He’s done a great job for this district.”
Royal Oak Schools Board of Education Trustee Allison Sykes said that Lewis-Lakin has done great things for the community, including being involved in many of the city’s nonprofit organizations and groups. “It all ties to the school district, and it was above and beyond his call of duty,” she said.
