Royal Oak Public Library Databases Cover Geneology, Auto Repairs and More

Did you know you can use your library card to learn a foreign language, create sales leads and marketing mailing lists or tap into your family history?

There are nearly 50 databases available with your card, including Mango LanguagesAncestry Library Edition, and Demographics Now - a database for entrepreneurs.

A database that falls in the "I would never have thought about checking the library for this" category, according to Director Mary Karshner, is the Chilton Library, which offers online do-it-yourself auto repair manuals.

"One of the weirder ones is The Turf Grass Information file - a joint database of U.S. Golf Association and MSU," said Karshner. The database contains the most comprehensive publicly available collection of turfgrass educational materials in the world, according to Michigan State University.

Many of the databases are available to the library through the Michigan Electronic Library which is a great resource provided by the state with federal funds, according to Karsher.
