Metals In Time Jeweler Moves in Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK, MI — Longtime jeweler in downtown Royal Oak, Metals in Time will be leaving their location at 400 South Main Street and relocating to 129 South Main Street, which is formerly known as Andiamos Trattoria.

Metals in Time’s new location will be adjacent to a 581-space parking deck in the heart of downtown, which will provide its customers with ample sheltered parking. The owner of Metals in Time, Sergio Basmajian said that he and his company weighed his options about leaving for the Woodward corridor, but ultimately decided that staying in downtown Royal Oak was best for his business because of the downtown’s bright future.

“We’ve been in Royal Oak for 22 years and we are still excited for what downtown Royal Oak is going to be. Royal Oak is still the epicenter of young professionals in south east Michigan and we think the developments here are going to increase daytime traffic,” said Basmajian. “We realized that our building was overpowering, which was one of the reasons we wanted to move. Our new location will be next to the new parking garage and the new downtown park. We are also excited to see that there is new blood coming into the city,” Basmajian added. Bar Louie opened in March 2019 and young entrepreneurs such as James Courtney and Daman Auvenshine announced that Royal Oak was going to be the home for the second location of their Milford-based Proving Grounds Coffee, which will serve ice cream, feature coffee roasting and a kids playscape. Other new businesses coming to town include Vera Asian, which opened last fall; and Sake Sushi, which opened earlier this year. City Ramen and Kaizen Ramen are scheduled to open in the near future.

Economic Development Director Todd Fenton noted the success of business retention efforts and celebrated the news that Metals in Time would be remaining in the downtown. “While we have continued to see a wealth of interest from users of all types who are excited by the new developments in downtown Royal Oak, we’ve put extra effort in working with those businesses who have called us home for some time to alleviate the pains that construction can cause. I’m very happy that we were able to work with Metals in Time and the owner of the former Andiamo’s space to keep one of our city’s jewels right in the heart of downtown,” said Fenton.

DDA Chair Jay Dunstan stated that the news was a sign that Downtown Royal Oak was a competitive and attractive location for businesses. “Everyone on the DDA is very pleased to see that Metals in Time has decided to remain in downtown Royal Oak. Its clear that they see value in what’s been developing here over the last couple of years. We can put the doubt to rest- Royal Oak has a promising future,” said Dunstan.

The 400 South Main space is the former Royal Oak Savings Bank building that was constructed in 1925. The Royal Oak DDA is utilizing retail recruitment services provided by Main Street Oakland County to help find a new tenant for the 9,500 square foot space.
