Michigan Vietnam Wall Returns to Royal Oak
Faces with names of Royal Oakers lost in Vietnam will be brought to Royal Oak via the Michigan Vietnam Veteran Traveling Memorial.
For the first time ever the Michigan Vietnam Wall will be displayed in a museum. The Wall will be displayed through the efforts of Dave Schoenherr as part of the November-through-April Korea-Vietnam Exhibit by the Royal Oak Historical Society Museum. Photos on loan by area veterans and their families will feature military life and the lives of native Asians, along with military uniforms, paraphernalia and documents from that time.
Memorials to local MIA soldiers will also be featured along with memorials to Michigan military personnel on loan from the Frankenmuth Military and Space Museum, Frankenmuth.
On opening day, Nov. 11, from 6-9 p.m., the American Legion Riders Color Guard will perform. There will also be veteran and family members present to share their experiences with you. Music will be provided by Steve Kovich, vocalist.
The exhibit runs Nov. 11 through mid-April 2014.Museum hours are 1-4 p.m., Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday.
