Mural To Add Splash Of Art To Royal Oak
A large mural adjacent to a Royal Oak restaurant will be completed by the end of summer.
ROYAL OAK, MI — In a city known for restaurants and nightlife, a new piece of art is about to make big impression in downtown Royal Oak. A 2,200-square foot mural depicting an oak tree with nearly two dozen famous musicians playing like children will be completed by about the end of summer.
Aaron Belen, owner of The Morrie restaurant at 511 S. Main Street, got approval this week to put a 2,200-square-foot mural on the south and east side of the his popular eatery.
He has commissioned artist Kobie Solomon to do the colorful mural, which will feature a giant oak tree with at least 20 famous musicians -- from Axl Rose to Jimi Hendrix -- as child characters frolicking among ladders, a tree house, swings, ropes and a crow’s nest.
