Nominate Your Favorite Royal Oak Artist For Community Arts Award

The Royal Oak Commission for the Arts is taking nominations for the 4th Annual Community Arts Awards until March 12.

The Royal Oak Commission for the Arts is taking for nominations for it 4th Annual Community Arts Award. The award, created in 2015, recognizes Royal Oak community members for their “contributions to promoting art and culture in Royal Oak.” Nominees in the past have included visual and performing artists, according to the City of Royal Oak.

Musicians, sculptors, painters and dancers have been among the nominees. Past winners include Bob Jones, Susan Wedley and Rose Marie Floyd. The award will be presented during the Celebration of the Arts festival. Until Mar. 12, anyone who’d lke to make a nomination can download a form at romi.gov/art.

“We are so lucky in Royal Oak to have some amazing artists that do so much for the community here in Royal Oak. The commission for the arts is proud to get the honor, and challenge, to highlight only one each year,” Jason Gittinger, said chair of the Royal Oak Commission for the Arts. “While some artists are notable in public, often many make a huge impact on countless lives without recognition. This call for nominees is a way for the community to lift up some of those awesome leaders and give them the spotlight they deserve,” he added.

The Royal Oak Commission for the Arts began in 2012, and is aimed at supporting arts and culture in town. The commission directs the Summer Concert Series, Art Explored, and the East 11 Mile Road Public Art Program.
