OCC Raises $23,000 for Scholarships from Arts, Beats & Eats Parking

Oakland Community College (OCC) student scholarship coffers netted $23,000 from the Ford Arts, Beats and Eats festival, which took place in Royal Oak over Labor Day weekend.

Festivalgoers were able to park at the Royal Oak OCC parking structures for a fee of $15 per car, with revenues directed to student scholarships at the college.

“We are excited to have this new source of funding for student scholarships,” said OCC Foundation Executive Director Kathryn Rusak. “We hope those who utilized OCC’s structures during the festival know they helped a student achieve their dreams.”

The Oakland Community College Foundation, the fundraising organization for the college, was formed in 1979 to raise contributions to provide opportunities for students and to enhance the quality of education at the college.

Each year, numerous scholarships are made available to OCC students through private contributions, special events, annual and endowed scholarships. Scholarship award amounts vary between $250 and $1,200. The OCC Foundation awarded nearly 300 scholarships during the 2012-2013 academic year.
