Police: Normandy Road Closed After Truck Hits Utility Pole

Police hope Normandy Road can reopen today.

For the third time in the past three months, a damaged utility pole is the basis for the closing of a major road.

On Friday at approximately 5 p.m. an unknown truck hit and damaged a utility pole at the intersection of Normandy Road and Delemere Boulevard, according to police.

"The damage caused the pole to lean toward the intersection, which in turn lowered the traffic signals closer to the road," said Lt. Dave Clemens of the Royal Oak Police Department. As a result, Normandy Road was closed all weekend.

Workers are at the site this morning making repairs, according to the Royal Oak Department of Public Service.

"We're hoping that the road can reopen today," said Clemens.

On Sept. 27, a truck hit a pole at the intersection of Rochester Road and 12 Mile Road that caused the traffic signal heads to come crashing to the ground. Then a month later, on Oct. 27, an early morning car crash knocked down a pole on Main Street, near Harrison Avenue, that left signal heads dangling near the ground.
