The Royal Oak High School Drama Club will begin making the theater, tech shop and backstage GREEN this Saturday as part of an initiative called “The Green Apple Project” sponsored by Green Schools Committee of Detroit Chapter of the US Green Building Council.
Students and advisors will be evaluating the current environmental impact of each department and then creating a strategic plan for the remainder of the school year. For example, plans might include how to reduce the number of batteries used each year by the sound crew, reuse of waste wood from set construction or finding ways to repurpose old fabric or costumes.
This Green Apple Day of Service Project was proposed and coordinated by Shannon Thomas Kennedy, LEED – GA (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – Green Associate) who works at the set and lighting and technical director for the ROHS Drama Club and is a member of the Green Schools Committee.
