Royal Oak Man Faces Felony Assault Charges

A Royal Oak man has been charged in connection with Sunday's stabbing incident at the Woodward North Apartments.

ROYAL OAK, MI — A 35-year-old Royal Oak man was arraigned Wednesday in connection with the stabbing of a man at the Woodward North Apartments on 13 Mile Road on Sunday. Frederick Lewis Harris faces two counts of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder, a felony which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison, according to Royal Oak Police Lt. Keith Spencer.

Lewis’ bond was set at $25,000 cash/surety with no 10 percent. A probable cause hearing will be held for Lewis on July 11 at the 44th District Court in Royal Oak.

Police believe Lewis stabbed a 26-year-old Lathrup Village man, who had came to the apartments to confront Lewis over a “personal disagreement.” A fight ensued and the Royal Oak man fled into an apartment, Spencer said. Lewis returned a short time later and allegedly stabbed the Lathrup Village man in the arm.

A third man, who police believe accompanied the 26-year-old, then shot Lewis in the leg. Police were called to the scene at about 2 p.m. Sunday. The shooter fled the scene and Royal Oak police are still investigating, attempting to locate the man. Emergency vehicles responded moments after police arrived and transported Lewis and the Lathrup Village man to Beaumont Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Royal Oak detectives with the assistance of the Troy Special Investigation Unit, a multi-jurisdictional investigative team with a Royal Oak officer assigned, located the suspected shooter. Detectives discovered the 26-year-old male CPL holder from Detroit was stabbed during the incident. Spencer said only Lewis will be charged in connection with the incident.
