Royal Oak Police To Crack Down On Woodward Cruisers

Department taking a 'zero tolerance' on drivers that rev their engines.

ROYAL OAK, MI — Cruisers on Woodward Avenue beware — the Royal Oak Police Department is gunning for you. In an effort to curb noise along the popular corridor, where folks in muscle cars like to cruise during the summer months, the department is taking a “zero tolerance” stance on drivers revving their engines.

Royal Oak Police announced the stepped up enforcement on June 1. Lt. Keith Spencer said the department receives multiple complaints throughout the summer regarding loud vehicles on Woodward and cruisers using business parking lots to congregate and rev their engines.

“We’re looking to maintain the quality of life for residents and businesses along Woodward Avenue,” he said in a news release. The enforcement initiative is being taken on vehicles that have been modified or are being driven in a way that violates traffic laws or the city’s noise ordinances.
