ROYAL OAK, MI — Election Day is Nov. 4 in Michigan, and there are several key races to watch in Royal Oak.

The highlight is the Royal Oak mayoral race, in which voters will choose whether to re-elect Mayor Michael Fournier or opt for challenger Trish Oliver.

Other important races include a city commissioner's race.

Royal Oak Mayor's Race

Royal Oak Mayor Michael Fournier is running for re-election against Trish Oliver, a longtime Royal Oak resident.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. You can register and then vote at Royal Oak clerk's township until 8 p.m. You can find your closest precinct here.

Fournier was first elected mayor in 2016 after serving as City Commissioner from 2011-2016. He has earned a career in Business Development.

His campaign priorities include public safety, infrastructure upgrades and support for Royal Oak's neighborhoods. He plans to increase resources for first responders and social and mental health professionals, replace lead lines and update water infrastructure and maintain investments in our parks and older adult initiatives.

Oliver, a senior communications consultant for corporations and non-profit organizations, said she will largely focus on fiscal responsibility and protecting single-family homes. She did not respond to Patch's candidate survey.

Other key races

Voters in Royal Oak will also decide three city commissioners seats. Candidates running include Paul Bastian, David Buzynski, Woody Gontina, Brandon Kolo, Carolyn Martz, Eric Smethurst and Michael Willard (Write-in).
