Royal Oak Woman Highlighted in 'What Drives You to Run' Video

Catherine Goddard, 59, of Royal Oak, was selected to appear in inspirational video series highlighting her journey toward this year's 2013 Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank Half-Marathon.

A Royal Oak woman describes how competing in half-marathons connects her to a son who succumbed to drugs in a heartfelt video series titled What Drives You to Run.

"I had a son who died when he was just shy of 20 of a drug overdose, and as you can imagine in family, it was horrible," said Royal Oak resident Catherine Goddard, 59, in the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers video series.

On days when Goddard feels down and wonders what she could have done differently, she runs. Within a mile, she starts to feel better, she said.

"He is with me a lot," she said. "I feel him running with me."
