Shrine Catholic High School Students Win 34 Scholastic Art And Writing Awards

Shrine student Molly Bonnell received a National Gold Medal.

Shrine Catholic High School is proud to announce that its art students submitted twenty-five individual pieces or portfolios in the Southeastern Michigan Region Scholastic Art Awards and were recognized with thirty awards, including an American Vision Award, Best of Show Portfolio, nine Gold Keys, eight Silver Keys, and eleven Honorable Mentions. The four Gold Portfolios, five Gold Key Art, and American Vision Award artwork will head to New York for national judging. It was also announced that Molly Bonnell received a National Gold Medal for her dress “Nyx” and will be on display during the month of June at Carnegie Hall.

This year’s winners from Shrine Catholic High School are:

  • Molly Bonnell ’13 – American Vision Award (Nyx), Best of Show Portfolio, Gold Portfolio, Gold Key (Fashion), Silver Key (Fashion), 3 Honorable Mentions (Fashion), National Gold Key (Fashion)
  • Arianna Diaz ’13 – 2 Gold Portfolios, Silver Key (Design), Silver Key (Drawing)
  • Hesen “George” Yang ’13 – Gold Portfolio
  • Madeline Bernhard ’13 – Silver Key (Fashion, headwear)
  • Alexa Cavanaugh ’13 – 2 Honorable Mention (Drawing)
  • Emily Deal ’13 – Silver Key (Design)
  • Samantha Kinjorski ’13 – Gold Key (Photography), Silver Key (Photography), 2 Honorable Mentions (Photography)
  • Jingru Liao ’14 – Gold Key (Drawing), Silver Key (Painting), Honorable Mention (Drawing)
  • Kaitlin Prakken ’13 – Gold Key (Fashion), Honorable Mention (Design)
  • Daniel Stelly ’15 – Silver Key (Photography), 2 Honorable Mentions (Photography)
  • Madeleine Tracey ’13 – Silver Key (Photography).

On the writing side of the awards, we want to congratulate Ketura Webb ‘15. She was awarded a Regional Gold Key, an American Voices Nominee, and a Silver Key for her fiction competition entries. Her flash fiction piece “Splintered Gray” was awarded a National Silver Key.
