Shrine Hires Graduate, Jim Skaggs ’89, as Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach

Coach Skaggs returns to the Shrine community after serving as the Shrine Academy coach over the last nine years.

Shrine Catholic High School announced today the hiring of Coach  Jim Skaggs ‘89 as the head boys varsity basketball coach.

Coach Skaggs  returns to the Shrine community after serving as the Shrine Academy coach over the last nine years.  He is a Shrine graduate and played varsity basketball under former Shrine Coach Frank Reeser.  Prior to Shrine Academy Coach Skaggs served as the head junior varsity coach and varsity assistant at U of D Jesuit High School (2002-2004) and head junior varsity and varsity assistant at Madison Heights Bishop Foley High School (1995-1997).

“We are very excited about the hire,” said current Athletic Director, Tim Dobrzeniecki. “He brings solid experience and a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to our program.  We like the fact that he is a product of our school and athletic program. We know he cares about the Shrine community and mentoring student athletes.”

During his tenure as the Shrine Academy boys coach, his teams won two district championships, two regional championships, had two CYO semi-final appearances, and appeared once as a CYO finalist. In his second year as U of D’s JV coach his team was a division champion.  In 2010 Coach Skaggs’ Michigan Warriors 18 and under team was the Central Michigan AAU Champion.
