Some Royal Oak Residents Not Happy About New Apartment Plans
Royal Oak city officials are expected to finalize plans for the proposed apartment building Monday evening.
ROYAL OAK, MI — Some Royal Oak residents are not happy about a plan to build an apartment complex in their neighborhood.
Royal Oak city officials voted in April to build a three-story, 42-unit apartment complex on Rochester Road and Genesee Drive, where an abandoned bank sits. The commission passed the initial phase of the resolution in a 6-1 vote.
Some of those against the plans for the new apartment complex are concerned about traffic in the area.

"Me and my husband will be landlocked in our driveway, risk coming on Genesee, which the people on Genesee don’t want more traffic and actually getting a ticket behind our house because we can’t get out of our driveway to the west," one local resident told WXYZ.
Others say the new apartment complex would be an eyesore, considering the area is mostly comprised of single-story smaller homes.
