Washington Road Work Begins This Week
Here's a look at the Washington Avenue resurfacing project that begins Tuesday.

The Washington Avenue resurfacing project, which will tear up and build anew Washington from 11 Mile to Crooks, is set to officially begin Tuesday.
The nearly $750,000 project includes the removal and replacement of deteriorated curbs and gutters and the installation of Americans with Disabilities Act compliant sidewalk ramps.
How will traffic be affected?
During the construction, the City of Royal Oak Engineering Department says residents and businesses can expect the following:

- Two-way traffic will be maintained with flag persons until summer recess begins for the Royal Oak Middle School on June 17. On-street parking will be maintained except where the contractor is working.
- The road will be closed on June 17, but will remain open to local traffic. Residents and businesses will be allowed access to the area under construction but will need to coordinate on street parking with the contractor.
- Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the construction, except when new concrete is constructed in front of driveways.
- The sidewalk on one side of the street will be open at all times while the opposite side is under construction.
