Chief Updates Status of Injured Firefighters

Two firefighters were injured battling a blaze last Wednesday.

Chief Craig Hoeft provided an update on the status of two firefighters injured at a house fire last Wednesday.

Hoeft reported that Lt. Dan Speicher was electrocuted and that he suffered a shoulder injury. He was treated at the hospital for several days before being released.

“He’s going to need time to recover before returning to duty,” Hoeft said.

Firefighter Bob Knauss suffered burns to his ears.

Hoeft said the department continues to investigate the fire. He said foul play has been ruled out.

The fire, at 8811 Macon Rd., started about 6 p.m. About half of the 2,500 square-foot log-cabin home was in flames when firefighters arrived. More than 50 firefighters from Saline, Milan, Pittsfield, Manchester, Britton and Augusta answered the call. Firefighters battled the blaze in 95-degree heat.
