Electricity Flows at Vehicle Charging Station in Saline

Electric vehicle owners can now charge their vehicles in the parking lot downtown.

Owners of electric vehicles can refuel their vehicles while shopping or dining in downtown Saline.

The electric vehicle charging station, located in the parking lot behind Muprhy's Crossing and Comerica Bank, was deemed fit for use by city officials Friday.

"We just had our final walk through today. We still need to get some signs up, but the station is fully functional and available for use," said Jeff Fordice, Director of the Saline Department of Public Works.

In February, city council struck a deal with DTE to install the station in Saline. Originally, plans called for installation in an outlying lot. It was moved to a more central location. DTE paid for the station and its installation using federal stimulus money.

The charging station is located on the north end of the middle row of parking spaces. City council has been unable to determine whether users should pay for the service, and how they might pay for the service.
