Following the ceremony, people were invited into the firehall to view the letters and art work created in 2002 by Saline Area Schools students for a ceremony marking the first anniversary of 9/11. Guests also viewed the "Holding Heroes In Our Heart — Never Forget 343" art memorial on display outside the firehall. The Saline Area Schools Art Department and the Saline Area Fire Department partnered with more than 200 members of the community to create the 4-by-7 foot piece of art, which features the names of the perished firefighters and children's hand prints to form the stars and stripes of the American flag.
