Guitar Duo Performs at Stone Arch Arts & Events Thursday
Guitar virtuoso Sean Blackman and award-winning jazz guitarist Wayne Gerard perform at the Music Under the Arch series.
Music lovers in general and guitar lovers in particular, are in for a treat as the duo of guitar virtuoso Sean Blackman and award-winning jazz guitarist Wayne Gerard comes to Thursday at 8 p.m.
In this third of the four-concert Music Under the Arch series, the two will perform Blackman's world music compositions, which he says grew from the influences of Armenian folk, African music, Brazilian jazz and Flamenco — as well as the combination of jazz, blues, rock and soul he heard growing up in Detroit.
Known for a musical style characterized by skill and passion, Blackman has cemented his reputation as a world-music guitarist. Local avant-jazz musician, Ken Kozora will open the show with his own version of new world sounds.

An art exhibit, " will be on display in conjunction with the concert. Featured artist Carol Hanna creates sonograms of bird songs, which she then airbrushes using the color palette of the corresponding bird. The result is a beautiful translation of sonic beauty to visual beauty. Each artwork is accompanied by a photograph of the bird it represents and a recording of its song.
In addition to Hanna's work, the exhibit will feature selections from the Eastern Michigan University Art Department's Annual Graduate Student Art Exhibition. "Song of the Birds" will be on display at Stone Arch through May 7.
