Hornets Ride Roughshod on the Kicking Mules in Girls Lacrosse

Chelsey Bishop scored eight goals and eight other Hornets found the back of the net as Saline stung Bedford, 17-4, in varsity lacrosse action at Crabtree Field Wednesday night.

Goalie Ashton Cole turned aside eight of 12 shots on goal as Saline improved to 4-3 on the season.

Coach Deb Elliot said she was happy with what she saw.

“We did a lot of things well today. I was really pleased with our transition game today and I liked way we got ground balls,” Elliot said.

The coach was also pleased to see the offense spread around.

“Chelsey played another great game, of course. But I was also glad to see a lot of girls get on the board today,” Elliot said. “A lot of girls scored their first goal of the season.”

Also scoring for Saline were Kathy Yang, who tallied twice, Briana Martin, Lauren Diroff, Amelia Waters, Alison Rentschler, Meredith Phillips, Kristen Powell and Jessica Opalseki. Martin, Diroff and Opaleski also each had an assist.

The Hornets fired 34 shots on goal, led by Bishop's 11. Waters also fired six shots on goal.

Saline controlled 51 ground balls. Martin controlled eight to lead Saline, while Powell had seven.
