Prior to the Saline varsity lacrosse team's 15-9 victory over Farmington North Harrison, captains Meredith Phillips and Kathy Yang, and fellow seniors Briana Martin, Grace Bowe, Allison Broucek, Caroline DeVries, Ashton Cole, Kristen Powell and Jaime Davis were honored during a "Seniors' Night" ceremony.
Coach Deb Elliot said the seniors have been important to the two-year-old program. Many of the seniors went out for lacrosse for the first time this year.
"It's benefitted our program to have all these girls come out and try lacrosse in their senior year," Elliot said.

Two of the seniors are goalies Ashton Cole and Allie Broucek. Elliot said they've played well in a tough position. She also credited the leadership of her captains, Yang and Phillips.
"Both of them bring a lot of leadership to the team. Meredith is just phenomenal in that regard. She handles all of our communication and she's a really good team builder and knows how to lift her teammates up," Elliot said.

Phillips, in her second year with the team, decided to go out for lacrosse in her junior year because she felt she wasn't as competitive as she should be in the sport she was playing.
"Until that point, the only time I played lacrosse was with my brothers in the backyard," Phillips said. "I thought I would a great opportunity to get onboard with something at the beginning and help to build it. You have nowhere to go but up."
The first year of girls' lacrosse was difficult for the Lady Hornets.
"It was pretty rough. We were in disbelief when we actually won," said Phillips.
This year's team has shown much improvement, and with Friday's 15-9 win over Farmington North Harrison, Saline has a 7-6 record.
"I'm really happy I did go out for lacrosse, because we've grown and improved immensely. We're more competitive this year, and that allows us to bring everything we know and learn in practice and to perfect it, and show off our schools," Phillips said.
