Lady Hornets Sink Dreadnaughts in Five Sets

Saline defeated Dexter in a match between two evenly-matched volleyball clubs Tuesday.

Volleyball fans couldn't have asked for much more than they received at Saline High School Tuesday.

The Saline Hornets defeated their rivals from Dexter, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 18-25 and 15-8 in a thriller.

"What a great match for our girls to go through tonight — five sets against a very good Dexter team. Our girls had to dig down deep to win it," said coach Lisa Shea.

"We had great senior leadership tonight out of Marissa Owen, Mackenzie Schumborg and Jessi Markey," Shea said.

The Lady Hornets appear to be rolling after winning the Mt. Morris Invitational Saturday.

"We had a quick turnaround from winning our tournament in Saturday and I was happy to see that our team did not suffer any let down and we approached this match with a lot of energy and enthusiasm," Shea said, adding the team fed off the energy in the high school gym.

"It was our first league match at home and it was great to see the energy from our students, hopefully they'll continue to show and bring more of their friends," Shea said. "We loved it!"

The Hornets play at Pioneer next Tuesday and won't be home until Sept. 27, when they host Bedford.
