Saline Defeats North Harrison With Last Minute Goal

Brad Harris scored the game winner in the final minute of the fourth quarter to lift Saline to victory.

Brad Harris scored his fifth goal of the game with 43.3 seconds left to snap a 9-9 tie and give the Saline Hornets a 10-9 victory over North Harrison in a pre-regional match held at Saline Saturday.

With the game tied at 9, Luke Steinman forced a turnover at midfield. When play resumed, Trevor Carey sprinted across field and fed Tommy Hickey, who ran it behind the Flyers' net and passed to Colin Cederna. Cederna spotted Harris cutting to the front of the net.

"I cut to open space and luckily me teammate found me. Colin's been making great passes all year," said Harris. "I went low (with the shot) because the goalie was having trouble with low shots."

Coach Matt Ceo praised his junior goal scorer.

"He's a junior, but he a leader. He's a great player. He wants the ball when the game is on the line and finishes when the game is on the line," Ceo said.

North Harrison was down 9-6 but scored two goals in the final 1:29 of the third period and then a goal with 5:36 to play in the fourth quarter to knot the game at nine.

Coach Bryan Lamble was pleased with his team's effort.

"It's been a tough season. We got hit hard by the injury bug and with the weather, we just never got it going. But today we played very well against a good team," Lamble said.

Davis Trapp scored five goals for the Flyers.

"He's been great all year with over 50 goals this season. He had a huge game. And Josh Abruzzo had a big game on defense, shutting down a lot of their guys," said Trapp.

With the game tied at 9, Saline netminder Austin Burd made several big saves.

Coach Ceo said he was glad to see his team win, but he didn't think his Hornets competed as well as they could have.

"We lost a lot of one-on-one battles today, and that's concerning."

Life won't be any easier for the Hornets, who play against host Detroit Catholic Central at 6 p.m. May 25.
