'Saline Kids on Campus' Presents Two Classes for Middle School Students This Summer

Middle school students can choose a welding or culinary arts class.

Saline Community Education is offering two "Saline Kids on Campus" classes for middle school students this summer.

The Flames and Sparks class, offered from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. or noon to 3 p.m., July 11-22, is an action-packed course that will utilize plasma arc cutting technology to create parts for assembly and joining using the gas metal arc welding process. Students will learn basic shop safety as well as flame cutting, plasma arc cutting, grinding and welding. The final project will be a World War II-style biplane that each student may take home.

The second class, offered at the same time, is for culinary arts students at the middle school level. Does your student have a passion for cooking? Does he or she aspire to be the next star chef? Then he or she may enjoy this two-week culinary arts summer program at Saline High School, featuring hands-on cooking, chef demonstrations and recipes from our kitchen. These classes offer an unforgettable experience for a student. The summer program mixes art, math, science and reading with kids. From basic knife skills to cake decorating, it offers lessons for every culinary interest. During these classes, students will chop, cook and bake to their heart's content in the high school's professional kitchen. Students will receive their own chef coat and hat and take home their own student cookbook.
