Saline Track Teams Compete in Ypsi April Showers

Saline's boys took fifth while the girls were seventh.

With a good portion of the Hornets’ track and field teams in Milford winning the co-ed meet, another contingent of Saline athletes competed at Saturday’s April Showers meet in Ypsilanti. 

Competing in cool, windy conditions, the boys finished fifth overall while the girls finished seventh.

For the boys, the best performances came in the 3,200 medley relay. Saline placed two teams in the event.  The team of Terrell McGee, Slattery, Nathan Martis and Grant Praschan finished in 8:52.9. The team of Brian Diefenbach, Matt Hays, Brian Kissane and Paul Chandler were sixth in 9:12.7.

In the traditional 4-by-800, Saline’s Ryan Gauche, Hays, Diefenbach and McGee finished third.

Matt Goeman ran a strong 400 into a monster wind to help the 4-by-400 to a fourth place finish in 3:35.7. He was joined by Hays, McGee and Praschan. Saline also took fourth in an 800 relay run by Goeman, Roel Galinato, Mitch Osadchuk and Hays.

For the girls, the top performances came in the distance medley replay and the shuttle hurdles.

Samantha Rathfon, Alexa Ross, Natalie Wysocki and Kelly Hall finished third in the 3,200 distance medley relay. Wysocki joined Bethany Easom, Leah Getsov and Elizabeth Troost to place third in shuttle hurdles.

Ratfon, Hall, Lindsay Walter and Melanie Schroeder finished fourth in the 4-by-800 relay. Devan Wetzel, Katrina Ezeinyi, Ross and Schroeder took fourth in the 1,600 medley relay. Easom, Holly Johnson, Melyssa Aben and Samantha Cannell were fifth in the 800 medley relay.

Tuesday’s track meets were postponed due to the weather.
