Saline Wins Two of Three at Own Water Polo Invitational

Saline won its first two games and but couldn't hold on to win its third game in the pool.

The Saline Hornets boys’ water polo team went 2-1 at its own tournament this weekend.

Saline opened Friday with a 9-8 win over Ann Arbor Skyline’s “B” team. The Hornets took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and survived a late comeback attempt.

James Fisher and Lucas Allen each scored three goals, while Louis Remenapp scored twice and Tom Walls had a goal and two assists. Also picking up assists were Fisher, Allen, Michael Bundas and Ben Pummell. Fisher and Allen each had four steals. Matt Lund came up with three steals. Remenapp, Bundas and Walls each had two steals.

Will McCullough made nine saves.

Saturday, Saline defeated Ann Arbor Pioneer, 7-6. The Hornets were town 6-5 in the fourth and got goals from Allen and Fisher to win.

Fisher scored four goals while Allen scored twice. Cameron Tubbs also tallied for the Hornets. Allen set up three goals and had six steals. Remenapp had four steals. Walls and Fisher each had three steals.. McCullough made four stops in goal.

Saline’s tournament came to an end Saturday with a 10-9 loss to Ann Arbor Skyline’s “A” team. Saline took an 8-7 lead into the fourth quarter but couldn’t hang on.

Fisher led the Hornets with six goals and four steals. Allen scored twice, and added two assists and four steals. Lund scored and had two steals. Walls also had two steals. McCullough made six stops for the Hornets.

The Hornets host Grand Blanc at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
