ScrapBook: Movie in the Park

About 300 people attended Friday's Movie in the Park event, which kicked off the Saline Recreation Center's 20th Anniversary weekend.

The Saline Recreation Center began its 20th Anniversary celebration Friday night with Movie in the Park and other activities.

Because of the special weekend, the event was moved from Mill Pond Park to Tefft Park, behind the Rec Center. Daycroft Montessori provided crafts for kids. Children bounced around in an inflatable jumper and obstacle course. Others made sand castles in the volleyball courts. Prizes and t-shirts were given away. Kids toured Saline Area Fire Department fire engines and a Huron Valley Ambulance.

The fun continues Saturday and Sunday. Here's the schedule of events:

Saturday (Luau Pool Party)

3-5 p.m. — Live mermaids swim in the pool.

3-6 p.m. —  Swimming and pool games, craft in the cabana, Two Twelve Arts Center facepainting and sidewalk chalk.

3:30-5 p.m. — Water volleyball in the lap pool.

4 p.m. — Four square tournament on the patio.

4-6 p.m. — Hotdogs on the grill.

5 p.m. — Beach ball drop.

5:30 p.m. — Limbo contest.

Sunday (Rec Center Open House)

Noon-6 p.m. — Free admission to the Rec Center, giveaways, Kids Corner and Family Fun Zone (in Gym A).

1-2 p.m. — Ribbon cutting ceremony and cake reception.

2-3:30 p.m. — “Minute-to-win-it” contests.

2-6 p.m. — Chair massages.

2:15 — Experience “Spin” class.

4-6 p.m. — Wii & Rock Band “video explosion.”

4:30 p.m. — Deep water aerobics.
