Sims Takes Third, Farrell Finishes Sixth at State Wrestling Finals
Two Big Reds wrestlers earned a spot on the podium at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
’s Tim Sims capped his phenomenal senior year by earning third place in his 152-pound weight class at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 wrestling finals Saturday at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
Sims, who lost his semifinals match to Lowell’s Dan Fleet on Friday night, faced off against district and regional rival Drew Barnes of Dexter in the consolation finals Saturday.
Sims pinned Barnes early in the second period to clinch third place.

Sims scored first, with a takedown and a 3-point near-fall for a 5-0 lead after the first period. In the second, Sims chose neutral. Barnes was awarded a point on a penalty. Sims scored a takedown and a 2-point near-fall. Barnes reversed, but Sims turned it right back on him for an 11-3 lead before pinning Barnes for the victory.
To reach the consolation final, Sims defeated Allegan’s Andrew Kelley, 6-4.

After a scoreless first, Kelley gained the first point with an escape. He went up 3-0 with a takedown in the second period.
Sims started the third on bottom and got on the board with a reverse. Kelley took a 4-2 lead with an escape. Sims tied the match with a takedown and then scored a 2-point near-fall for a 6-4 lead, which he held for victory.
Sims finished his year with a 59-1 record.
Milan junior Dillon Farrell also earned a place on the podium in the 145-pound weight class. Farrell began his day with the opportunity to finish anywhere from third to eighth. He opened with a 6-0 win over Coopersville’s Jordan Sullivan. Farrell lost his next match to St. John’s Travis Curly, 15-0. That sent Farrell to the fifth-sixth match against Adrian’s Matt Galvan. Galvan won his match, 9-1.
Farrell finished the season with a 23-8 record.
