Small Crowd Pays Respects at 9/11 Anniversary Ceremony in Pittsfield Township
Pittsfield Township held its annual flag raising ceremony to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America.
A small crowd gathered at Pittsfield Township's Administrative Building Sunday for a brief ceremony held to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.
The ceremony, led by members of the Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety, which includes police officers, firefighters and dispatchers, began at 9:40 a.m. with a procession that featured a police vehicle and three fire trucks.
At 9:59 a.m., marking the time of the collapse of the second World Trade Center tower on 9/11, the bell tolled to announce the death of firefighter.

The flag was lowered, saluted, and returned to half-staff.
After a moment of silence, three prayers were said, including the Fireman's Prayer and the Policeman's Prayer.

After another tolling of the bell, the flag was raised to full staff, and lowered once again to half-staff.
Remarks were made by Pittsfield Township Public Safety Director Matt Harshberger and Pittsfield Township Supervisor Mandy Grewal before the gathering broke up.
