Two Teens in Custody Face Armed Robbery Charges

A boy, 16, and girl, 15, are accused of being part of a group that police say used a handgun to rob a Saline drug dealer.

Two teenagers in custody are expected to be arraigned Wednesday on charges related to an alleged armed robbery that took place July 26 on the 800 block of Valley Circle Drive.

On Tuesday, arrested a 16-year-old Pittsfield Township boy at Saline Alternative High School. He is being held at the county’s juvenile detention center.

A 15-year-old Saline girl who also faces charges turned herself in to Saline police. Both are being charged as adults, according to police.

The boy is accused of armed robbery, which carries a penalty of up to life in prison. Both teens face felony counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, which carries up to four years in prison, and conspiracy to commit robbery, which carries a penalty of up to life in prison.

The pair is accused of setting up a call to purchase drugs from a Saline man and then robbing him, using a handgun in the process. Three other individuals involved in the alleged robbery have not yet been identified by police.

According to the police, the girl contacted the victim to purchase marijuana. The accused pair and three other males showed up at just prior to 11 p.m. July 26. The victim went out to meet the girl as his 26-year-old girlfriend was taking out trash. The males jumped the man and stole the marijuana, police said. One of the assailants pointed a black handgun at the girlfriend and also at the girlfriend’s mother, who had came out of her home after hearing the commotion, police said.

The suspects fled on foot. Police dispatched to the scene used the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit but could not locate the alleged assailants.
