Saline hosted Salem for a varsity baseball scrimmage Thursday.

Spring is here. Almost.

You can tell by the ping of the bats at the Saline High School baseball field, the odd vernacular that can only be heard in a high school baseball team's dugout, the cheeks bulging with sunflower seeds and John Fogerty's Centerfield blaring from the loudspeaker.

Coach Scott Theisen and his Hornets returned to the field Thursday for their first scrimmage of the year. We captured some of the sights and sounds from the scrimmage.

The Hornets are off for spring break and have another scrimmage at 4 p.m. Thursday at Grosse Pointe South. On April 12 they'll officially open the season with a to visit Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central for a doubleheader. The home opener is at 4:30 p.m., April 14 against Dearborn Divine Child.
