Exam for Shelby Township Church Robbery Suspects Adjourned

The preliminary exam for two men charged in the robbery of St. Therese Lisieux Roman Catholic Church was adjourned Thursday in 41-A District Court.

The preliminary exam Thursday for two men charged in the robbery of St. Therese Lisieux Roman Catholic Church in Shelby Township was adjourned.

Eric Joseph-Edward Eby, 19 of Shelby Township, and Logan P. Gerring, 17, of Sterling Heights, appeared in 41-A District Court for a preliminary exam on breaking and entering, burglary and weapons charges.

Attorneys for the men successfully petitioned Judge Douglas Shepherd to have the exam adjourned until June 27. They stated that additional charges may be pending against their clients.

Shawn Smith, attorney for Gerring, also was able to get his client's bond reduced to $25,000.

"He was a standout individual at his high school before this happened," Smith said.

Shepherd did require Gerring to be fitted with a tether, and be confined to his home, if he is able to post bond.  Eby is being held in the Macomb County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
