Findings of Investigation of Former Ford/Visteon Property to be Discussed

The results of a study by Dragun Corp of the contamination of the former Ford/Visteon property will be discussed at a public meeting Wednesday at the Shelby Township Hall.

The results of environmental testing of the former Ford/Visteon industrial site on 23 Mile by Dragun Corporation will be discussed in a public meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, in the Township Hall.

According to a report posted on the Shelby Township website, the tests show:

  • The presence of trichloroethylene and other chlorinated volatile organic chemicals in soil,
  • Contamination of groundwater and soil below the water table emanating from these source areas across the site and onto and across the adjoining Grand/Sakwa property.

As a result of the findings, the report also suggests "interim response activities" to remove the known source areas in soil" and "reduce the contamination in groundwater and soil below the water table to below detectable concentrations to prevent further migration from the Site and contamination of adjoining and adjacent properties."

"This meeting is one step, albeit a major step, in addressing the issues facing our community at 50500 Mound Road,” Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis said in a release announcing the meeting. “By opening up our reports and plans to the public, we are looking for the necessary transparency we need to solve this problem.”
