M-53 Overpass Repair in Shelby Township to Start Friday
The Michigan Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin overpass repair above M-53 Friday in Shelby Township.

Motorists can expect lane and overpass closures along the Van Dyke Freeway starting Friday as the Michigan Department of Transportation begins a $1.2 million overpass repair project.Â
There will be staggered, weekday single-lane closures along M-53 to accommodate rush-hour traffic, according to an MDOT release.
According to MDOT, the planned closures and lane restrictions include:

- Starting at 8 p.m. Friday, northbound and southbound M-53 between 21 and 23 Mile roads will have single lane closures beginning. The lane closures are scheduled to be completed by 5 a.m. Monday.Â
- On weekdays, there will be one lane closed on southbound M-53 from noon until 5 a.m. the following morning. One lane may be closed on northbound M-53 from 8 p.m. until noon. On weekends, one lane may be closed in both directions of M-53.
- The 22 Mile Road overpass over M-53 will be closed for 10 days, beginning May 3. Following that closure, the 21 Mile Road overpass over M-53 will be closed for 10 days. Detours will be a posted for both closures.
- Work on the Clinton River Road, and 23 Mile Road, overpasses will take place simultaneously. Lane closures will be in effect during work on the 23 Mile Road overpass.
