Rhoades Gets Probation for 2013 Death of Her Son

No contest plea leads to probation after prosecutors are unable to reinstate murder charges

Judge Jennifer Faunce placed Audrionna Rhoades on probation Tuesday for the death of her 2-year-old son.

Rhoades’ son, James Nelson, died after being strapped in a hot minivan for hours in Shelby Township in 2013. Apparent confusion over who was supposed to watch the child ultimately led to his death.

Faunce dismissed second-degree murder charges against Rhoades earlier this year, according to a report in the Detroit News, and the decision was upheld by the Michigan appeals court.
