Shelby Runner Will Ceremonially Finish Boston Marathon at the Indy 500
Nancy Smith was stopped short of the finish line at the Boston Marathon due the bombing. On Sunday, she will ceremonially finish the race before Indianapolis 500.
Before the command is given Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for "Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines," Nancy Smith will already be revved up.
Smith, a third-grade teacher at Roberts Elementary, was one mile from the finish line of the Boston Marathon when she was directed off the course due to the bombing.
Although she was unable to finish the race, Smith was invited to ceremonially finish the race before the start of the Indianapolis 500.

"I was born and raised in Indiana. This is a thrilling - once in a lifetime - experience!!," Smith wrote in an email to Patch.
The day starts at 9:30 a.m. with a red carpet walk with celebrities, athletes and VIP guests. The .5 mile run starts at 11:50 a.m. and takes Smith and other runners who were unable to finish the race past the field off 33 cars lined up on the track and in front of nearly 100,000 spectators. Runners will then be at the base of the pagoda, next to the track when the command is given for drivers to start their engines.

According to a report on WTHR.com, there will be 35 runners from the Midwest who will take part in the run which begins in turn four of the track and take runner across the Yard of Bricks.
