Shelby Township Woman May Face Added Child Abuse Charges
Prosecutors may add six more charges against the Macomb Intermediate School District teacher accused of abusing disabled students.
MACOMB COUNTY, MI -- Former Macomb County special education teacher Brittany Stevens could face more charges, according to Click on Detroit/Channel 4. Stevens, 28, of Shelby Township, was arrested in February after police investigated complaints she had physically and verbally abusing some of her disabled 8- and 9-year-old students. At a hearing Thursday, prosectors said they were considering adding six more counts to Stevens' indictment.
The Macomb County Intermediate School District teacher worked with autistic children at Sequoyah Elementary School, where police say she she was verbally and physically abusive to nonverbal pupils. Prosecutors Thursday told the judge they were considering adding six more counts to Stevens’ indictment, so the hearing was adjourned pending any new charges. Persecutors in Macomb County initially charged Stevens with three counts of second-degree child abuse, a 10-year felony.
