The future will be on display as Utica Community Schools hosts a community ribbon cutting/open house at DeKeyser Elementary on Sunday, Aug. 24 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The newly reconstructed elementary school is the first step in a long-range plan to reconstruct/update schools across Michigan’s second largest school district.

The improvements are made possible through a $550 million bond issue approved by UCS voters in May 2023.

“The reconstructed DeKeyser Elementary represents the transformational nature of our 2023 Safety and Success Bond Issue,” Superintendent Robert S. Monroe said. “With a focus on safety, Utica Community Schools is drawing on its legacy of excellence through a new learning environment that fosters academic success for our students.”

The open house will be held at the reconstructed school, 39600 Atkinson in Sterling Heights, and is open to all interested community members. The celebration will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, self-guided tours, newly opened playgrounds for children, and food trucks compliments of the generous support from Barton Malow, Integrated Design Solutions and Anderson, Eckstein & Westrick, Inc.
