After a winter of trash build-up, hundreds of volunteers will hit the main streets of Shelby Township to remove debris.

The annual Shelby Township Beautification Committee Clean Up Day begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Community Center. An estimated 800 people are expected to participate in the event, and walk-ins can participate on the day of the event.

"It instills community pride and makes people more mindful of getting litter off the road," said Dub Hearon, chairman of the Beautification Committee, of the nearly 30-year-old event.
