25 Automotive Jobs In The St. Clair Shores Area: See Who Is Hiring

METRO DETROIT, MI — While steps have been taken in recent years to diversify Michigan’s economy and other sectors are expecting growth this year and next, make no mistake: the automotive industry is still the region’s bread and butter.

A recent University of Michigan jobs forecast predicted that the region would about 91,000 jobs in 2017-18 combined. Professional and business services leads the way with 33,000 of those projected jobs, with construction creating 22,000, trade, transportation and utilities 18,000 and hospitality and leisure 14,000.

To put those numbers into perspective, however, consider the following facts from the Detroit Regional Chamber:

• The state is home to 60 of North America’s top 100 automotive suppliers.
• 12 assembly plants manufacture 28 cars and trucks in Michigan, producing more vehicles than any other state — more than 20 percent of all U.S. production
• More than 46,000 automotive manufacturing jobs have been added since 2009, more than any other state.
• Over 90,000 engineers are employed in Michigan, a higher concentration than any other state.
