Coast Guard Assists Two in Lake St. Clair

The U.S. Coast Guard assisted two people on a boat in Lake St. Clair after a good Samaritan called to report that a vessel was taking on water.

The U.S. Coast Guard assisted two people Monday on Lake St. Clair after their boat started taking on water.Β 

Coast Guard Sector Detroit received a distress callΒ just after noon from a "good Samaritan" whoΒ reported a boat with two people aboard was taking on water about five miles north of Windsor, Ontario, in Lake St. Clair, according to a release.Β 

After receiving the call, aΒ boatcrew fromΒ Coast Guard Station St. Clair Shores was launched. The members of boatcrew arrived on scene at around 12:40 p.m. and immediately started dewatering the 30-foot vessel, according to the Coast Guard. A short time later, a boatcrew fromΒ the Canadian Coast Guard arrived and joined in helping theΒ distressed boaters.

β€œThis rescue was a prime example of our great working relationship with the Canadian Coast Guard,” said Petty Officer 3rdΒ Class Zach Ogden, the coxswain of the 25-foot RB-S, in a release. β€œThe rescue crews worked seamlessly together and because of that we were able to get both people and their boat to shore safely.”

The boat was transported to a marina in Windsor. According to a release, the cause of the flooding was believed to be a crack in the hull of the boat.

The Coast Guard is not releasing the names and hometowns of the people who were assisted.Β
