Positivity Project

Under the guiding principles of our districtwide initiative, the Positivity Project, the #PositivityInAction mindset is our top priority. These past two weeks we focused on the character strengths of the OTHER PEOPLE MATTER MINDSET and CURIOSITY.

Under the guiding principles of our districtwide initiative, the Positivity Project, the #PositivityInAction mindset is our top priority. Because of our goal to inspire students to build positive relationships and become their best selves, we invite you to follow this Positivity Project Calendar.

This calendar outlines all 24 character strengths, 1 highlighted per week. Our teachers create engaging and impactful lessons — differentiated by grade-level — and share through presentations, student recognitions, classroom discussions, and building-specific displays.

People with the character strength of curiosity likes exploration and discovery. They ask lots of questions because they want to learn more about anything and everything.

In September, the energy is high for both students and staff. It is a time for new beginnings, which begins with relationships. Our teachers connect with students where mutual respect and communication prevail. We value students and put them first, which is shown through our planning, reflecting, and decision-making.

As we enter into our first week of highlighting a specific character strength within the Positivity Project, we can't think of a better example of curiosity than introducing a new campaign called #FacesFriday, a collection of miniature biographies that help our Shorian Nation learn more about the people in our district. This past Friday we will focus on our 31 new teacher hires!

Looking forward, our upcoming character strengths are TEAMWORK (9/19-9/25) and OPEN-MINDEDNESS (9/26-10/2).

Making children aware that every one of them has all 24 character strengths, provides the foundation for genuine self-confidence grounded in self-awareness and develops an #OtherPeopleMatter #MotivationalMonday mindset.

Shorian Nation Advice

In the first week of school, we asked: What one piece of advice would you share with Shorian Nation students?

Please use our Padlet to add to our staff responses: https://tinyurl.com/LSPSAdvice

When you hear good advice, you should always do two things: Take it in and pass it on.

Here's a favorite from our Mascot Shorey: Believe in yourself. The way you see yourself is the way you will treat yourself, and the way you treat yourself is what you become. Remember, Shorians are strong, kind, and are capable of accomplishing lofty goals.

Lake Shore Public Schools is committed to care for the social-emotional health and wellbeing of its students and staff. Our strength comes from a community who cares. We are appreciate being part of a community that values education and is part of the solution for a healthy culture.

Innovation

Classroom Setups

Before anything else, preparation is the key to success. School supply boxes were delivered, floors received a fresh coat of wax, Chromebooks, cords, and cables were inspected for quality insurance, and continuous landscaping enhancements increased overall aesthetics; These are staple parts of the planning process for every new school year. But for a teacher, intention begins with classroom setup.

Upon entry, but not before a variety of morning greeting choices such as air hug, wave, or thumbs up, students noticed classroom layouts to maintain social distancing. Carefully crafted getting to know you activities and a simple surprise or two lay neatly on desks. Bulletin boards displays, both in traditional and digital forms, adorned the walls to convey information and encourage participation. There were books, folders, P2 sightings, all meticulous placed for ease of access and understanding. It was as if our staff, in addition to Teacher Education degrees from higher education institutions, also earned Interior Design endorsements.
