Macomb Co. School Districts Closes Friday Due To 'Too Many Illnesses'
The large number of students and staff are out sick at a time when Michigan is beginning to see an uptick in COVID, flu and RSV cases.
MACOMB COUNTY, MI — A spike in illnesses forced the Van Dyke Public School District to cancel Friday classes.
School officials said all nine of their schools will be closed Dec. 9 due to "too many illnesses going around to safely and healthily run our buildings."
"It seems as if there are too many illnesses going around to safely and healthily run our buildings," district officials said. "It's definitely December in Michigan. Please get some rest this weekend and stay safe."

The schools that were closed are:
- Van Dyke Public Schools
- Lincoln High School
- Lincoln Middle School
- Carlson Elementary
- Lincoln Elementary
- McKinley Elementary
- CTE/SMTEC Consortium
- Kennedy Early Childhood Center
- Success Academy
The large number of students and staff are out sick at a time when Michigan is beginning to see an uptick in COVID, flu and RSV cases. Michigan added 2,989 new COVID-19 weekly cases on Tuesday and saw a 9 percent jump in hospitalizations.

State health officials also urged Michiganders to get the flu shot as hospitals in the state are starting to see more influenza cases.
