Macomb Contractor Scandal Affects Shores’ City Towing Contract

With its existing towing contractor at the center of a public corruption scandal in Macomb County, St. Clair Shores is taking towing bids.

Official Towing, the company owned by embattled Grosse Pointe resident Gasper Fiore, may lose its contract with St. Clair Shores when City Council votes on renewal next week. The company was dropped by Warren six weeks ago, while Fiore awaits his sentence for charges that included bribing officials into awarding his company contracts.

St. Clair Shores officials say they’ve never had problems with the towing company itself, but want to make sure Fiore no longer has any financial interest in his old firm, Official Towing.

Company spokesman Nasser Beydoun insisted Monday that Fiore, who faces sentencing in May, is out at Official. “We have a long history of providing service to St. Clair Shores, we hope to keep providing this service,” Beydoun told the Macomb Daily. The company says Fiore’s name appears on its city towing license because of an error in paperwork, and that the company now belongs to Jessica Lucas, Fiore’s daughter.
