Metro Detroit Teen Charged In Online Threats Against MSU

Officials said the teen is a student at the school.

EAST LANSING, MI — A Michigan State University student has been charged in connection with an online threat against the school, according to police.

News reports identified the student as 18-year-old Hope Duncan, from Eastpointe. She was charged with a false report or threat of terrorism and using a computer to commit a crime, according to police.

She was placed in jail with a $20,000 bond. Her next court date is scheduled for March 20.

If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison.

Officials said Duncan is a student at the school.

Police said the threat was posted online at 2 p.m. last Wednesday.

Within an hour, officers located Duncan at an address in the 800 block of Chestnut Road in East Lansing and arrested her in connection with the threat, according to police.

Police did share the nature of the threat.

Police said there is no current threat to our community.

On Feb. 13, 2023, three students: Brian Fraser, Arielle Anderson and Alexandria Verner were fatally shot at the university. The gunman later shot himself to death.
