Officer Injured in Police Chase

Shores officer gets minor injury during chase of auto theft suspect

A St. Clair Shores Police Department officer was among four injured in a police chase Thursday in Mount Clemens.

According to a report in the Detroit News, the injuries were minor and occurred when officers pursued a man for stealing a 1999 Saturn from a business in the city on Monday.

Dylan Michael Yates, 23, allegedly stole the vehicle Monday.

Thursday morning, an acquaintance of the owner of the vehicle noticed it in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Mount Clemens and notified police.

Detectives from the Macomb County Sheriff Department’s auto theft unit arrived at the scene and placed the vehicle under surveillance.

When the suspect entered the vehicle, officers moved in.

That’s when Yates fled in the vehicle, ramming several parked cars and leading police on a chase, much of the pursuit was caught on a dramatic dashcam video.

Police chased Yates though the city, then he rolled out of the moving vehicle and fled on foot.

Officers caught up to him moments later and placed him under arrest.

Yates if charged with receiving and concealing stolen property, fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest causing injury and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

His bond is set at $50,000.
